How much can your company save on claims? A simple formula

Before buying any tool, it helps to know how much money is at stake. Here is a simple estimate you can make in five minutes with data you already have.

The formula

Estimated annual savings = claims per year × average cost per claim × % of detectable fraud or error.

The three numbers

1) How many claims your company pays per year. 2) What each one costs on average. 3) What share of those payments could be fraud, abuse or error. In the industry, 2% to 5% is often used as a starting point for conversation; yours may differ, which is why it’s measured with your data, not with averages.

Illustrative example

10,000 claims per year × $400 × 3% = $120,000 per year. The numbers are invented to explain the math; they are not a promise of results.

What to add and subtract

Add the manual-review hours saved (hours × the analyst’s hourly cost). Subtract the cost of the tool and your team’s time to use it. If the result is positive with a prudent estimate, it’s worth testing.

How to confirm it without risk

The most honest way is a pilot: analyze a sample of your data, see which cases surface and calculate the real savings on that sample before deciding. If there’s no value, you don’t buy.

That is exactly what we do at Interpolgar Nexus in a 90-day pilot. Request one and we’ll calculate yours.
